Announcement of Press Conference
Date: Tuesday, June 9th
Time: 12:30pm
Place: Duluth City Hall, Mayors Reception Room

Duluth, MN, June 8th, 2009

A bill drafted by Senator Yvonne Prettner-Solon to support, through state allocated funding, a one-of-a-kind home energy efficiency program was signed into law in late May.  The Duluth Energy Efficiency Program, or DEEP, is designed to help households save money and lessen their impact on the environment through reductions in household energy use.  The $1.5 million will help fund a program administrator and to seed a revolving loan pool.  This revolving loan pool is designed to offer residents low interest loans to help finance energy efficiency work done in their homes.  The city of Duluth is currently working with the Office of Energy Security to receive the money and is in the process of soliciting proposals from organizations interested in administering the DEEP program.

To learn more about this program and about the ways in which it can help create local jobs, save our city residents millions in energy costs, and help Duluth be a national leader in environmental protection please join us Tuesday, June 9th at 12:30pm in the Mayors reception hall.  On hand to offer their comments and answer questions will be State Senator Yvonne Prettner-Solon, Duluth City Mayor Don Ness, and members of the DEEP planning team.

The local DEEP planning team consists of:

  • Tony Cuneo, AH Zeppa Family Foundation and Duluth City Council
  • Jodi Slick, Executive Director of Common Ground Construction
  • Dean Talbott, Residential CIP coordinator at MN Power
  • Pam Kramer, Executive Director Duluth LISC
  • Emily Larson, Coordinator of Duluth at Work
  • Keith Hamre, City of Duluth Community Development
  • Eric Schlacks, Comfort Systems
  • Tina Koecher, MN Power CIP Administrator
